We’ve had Hudson since he was a puppy and he’s always had a rather sensitive stomach. About a year ago, he put on a good amount of weight as we weren’t really monitoring how much we were feeding him. Based in New York City, The Farmer’s Dog offers meals developed by board-certified veterinary nutritionists using a proprietary algorithm to determine a custom plan for your dog’s needs. Ingredients are USDA human-grade and sourced from the same suppliers that restaurants order from, along with local farms and other human food purveyors. No preservatives!
It all began with one of the founder’s dog, Jada who had severe digestive issues the first two years of her life. After trying everything on the market, her Dad made fresh food that seemingly cured her overnight. This drove the desire to break into the market and The Farmer’s Dog was born.
How It Works
Once brought to the site, complete a quick, easy-to-fill yet detailed questionnaire to determine the correct meal for your dog. It’s honestly a fun process and one of the most thorough compared to other services. Besides asking your dog’s name, breed and weight, it also asks additional information, including your dog’s body profile, eating habits and health issues.
From there, you can choose all or some of 3 recipes (depending on your dog’s conditions) — Turkey & Parsnips, Beef & Lentils, and Pork & Sweet Potato. Price ranges based on recipe and your dogs serving sizes which are all calculated for you based on your goals!
One of the little details I love is that your dog’s name is right on the packaging and that the delivery process is well thought out to use dissolvable cornstarch as packaging insulation to keep your food cool during the delivery process. All great for the environment!
The company also has the option to deliver full meals, half meals (to mix in with kibble) and toppers to meet your budgetary needs.
For those who aren’t into ordering meals at all, The Farmer’s Dog has a great DIY option, where it provides a delicious recipe you can make at home using their nutritional nutrient pack to balance out the meal.
