A happy home goes beyond it’s looks and decor selections. Daily habits, tailored moments that fit your family and special touches make for true happy. I’m sharing all the makings of happy in my own home to inspire yours below! What would you add to the list?
1. Make the Bed
Queue your eye roll! I’ll admit, there are days where this doesn’t happy. But when it does, man does it make a huge difference in how the day starts AND ends. There is nothing better than starting the day with a sense of accomplishment and organization, and, ending the day getting into a cozy clean bed.
2. Ambient Lighting
Be intentional about all of your lighting. Whether its warm accents via candles, lamps or sconces, or, setting a single lamp on while watching your evening shows in total darkness – making sure that you don’t have bright, retail store lighting in areas where you prefer to relax makes all the difference.
3. Musical Moments
Make anything fun by throwing on the appropriate playlist. We have music on while getting ready before going out to dinner, doing the dishes, making dinner and sitting outside. It truly boosts your bond while doing mundane things as a family, or alone! Check out all of my playlists here.
4. Place Meaningful Objects
Source items that have meaning to you and your family. Place them on a shelf that you pass by everyday for a subconscious smile. Additionally, frame those family photos! They’ll be a subtle reminder of the fact that you’re where you’ve always dreamed to be and bring you back to that place.
5. Minimize Clutter
I give this tip a lot, but preventing pile up clears up your subconscious drastically. Whether its random items on your desk, on the kitchen island, or clothing on the floor. I promise picking up and seeing free space brings joy.
6. Daily Family Walk
The only thing that we let stop us is the weather! Going on a daily family walk allows us to step away from devices, get natural fresh air and catch up on our days. We often plan the rest of the evening and week, vent and reflect. Bonus – 30 minutes of walking is such a great all around workout!
7. Weekend Tradition
Whether its baking together on Saturday morning, or heading to your favorite bakery for a pastry. Set a weekend tradition to look forward to and get up! We love getting up at 8:00am on the weekends to make the most of it with a slow morning.
8. Establish a Scent
Whether you prefer candles or essential oils, pick a scent that makes you and your family happy. Typically, we switch this up seasonally – even making a potpourri brings a sense of accomplishment. Here is my fall recipe!
9. Make a Nighttime Routine
I feel so good about myself when I take some extra time to head upstairs and go through my entire skincare and dental hygiene routine. Setting out everything for the next day allows you to ease any anxieties and save time. I typically watch a show on my phone while doing so – beats being on the couch!
10. Bring Nature In
Heading to the market for fresh flowers is always a great way to bring in happy. However, even forging in your own backyard does the trick! Get some fresh stems for your kitchen, desk or coffee table for a little moment of joy as you move through the space.
