9 Essentials for a Simple, Small Space Thanksgiving Tablescape
With Thanksgiving approaching, I challenged myself by using only what I already own to create a Thanksgiving tablescape/place setting for small spaces. To increase space for a beautiful setting, I recommend serving dinner buffet style in the kitchen. Whether just two of you, or a small immediate family gathering, let’s make this year special through a beautiful setting. Here is my list of essentials to set your table to create a warm and welcoming setting:
1. Create a Color Story / Palette
Use a hero item to set the tone. Let’s say you have gold/bronze flatware. Incorporating warm tones vs. silver instantly gives a welcoming feel and can tie together the rest of your table elements. If you have an orange table runner, think about what neutral elements you can incorporate to allow that runner to stand out. Keep it simple by following this mindset!
2. Coordinating Napkin Rings
Don’t be afraid to mix metals like silver and gold napkin rings to coordinate with other dishware! You can also utilize greenery and wood to coordinate. I’ll put mine out at Christmas…
3. Linen Napkins
Bring in color if needed, but I usually keep my napkins simple to allow the table to be the visual focus.
4. Serving Bowls/Vessels
One can never have enough serving bowls/vessels. From salad, to chips and general appetizers – they are so versatile and create instant warmth. My table is a little small, but these make great functional decor on the table.
5. Festive and/or Coordinating Table Runner
I lean towards a simple runner, but utilizing plaid, for example, can instantly dress up your tablescape.
6. Place Cards
Place cards are a great way to make your guests feel special and in some instances help one another get to know each other!
7. Incorporate Natural Elements
Incorporate faux or real greenery stems, berries, pumpkins and gourds to create an effortless look.
8. Set Out Proper Dishware
Gold rim dishware is so stunning and is another easy way to tie together the festive elements! Include water glasses at the minimum, wine glasses are a nice touch as well.
Incorporating charger plates and appetizer plates are an effortless way to dress up the table and serve up different courses throughout the evening.
Don’t be afraid to utilize plastic! It reduces clean up and storage in your small space.
9. Small Ambient Touches
Candle holders instantly elevate the look of your table by providing height. Incorporating votives (if you have the space) can add additional intimacy and warmth.
