In case you missed it, we’ve been underway on a Second Floor Renovation and I shared all of the plans here. Last week, I shared some framing and drywall progress here. Get up to speed via those posts as today, I’m sharing some finishes with you! A lot of this renovation was focused on layout and function, with functional selects like plumbing and lighting. Note, I will do a separate post on our wardrobes once they are fully organized this Spring. I’ll also be spending the next few months to come finishing it up with furniture and decor that I will of course share. Let’s get into it!
Inspiration
Bathroom
I wanted the overall aesthetic to balance a timeless, yet modern style that blends neutrals to stand the test of time. To push outside the norm, I was looking for a muted taupe finish on the cabinetry and we happily found just that! As for tile, wanted a mix of natural stone hues, overall feeling light and airy. You’ll see a mix of whites, taupe and grays in both the floor, wall and penny tiles. It was so fun to see that our designer found a perfect slab to pull the space together for the countertop.
To keep with the idea of mixing, you’ll find a blend of polished nickel bath hardware, with honey brass cabinetry pulls + accessories throughout the space.
As for the mirror, we designed out an accent wall of sorts where the mirror will be built into the space. So excited to see it all come together soon, but I have linked everything below to inspire your own space!
Here’s a peep into a bit of the process. Again, so lucky to have Bayberry Design Co. to refer us to the best selects and companies to choose from.
Cabinetry:
We worked with Severna Park Kitchen and Bath and went with the Mushroom Tinted Varnish finish on the Roseburg style faces of the Fieldstone line.
Tile:
The shower walls, ceiling and bathroom flooring utilize the same tile and the shower floors + niche utilize the same penny tile. We were able to source affordable, natural stone options with great reviews! We ordered the floor and shower tile from here, but linked elsewhere below. The grout color is Frost from Mapei.
The countertop slab is Marble Calacatta, with a cove edge and a flat edge on the backsplash.
Hardware
As mentioned above, we have a mix of finishes throughout the space. We’ve already started to use the shower and toilet and are so impressed with the Artifacts line by Kohler! Definitely worth investing in materials that will hold up over time for such a high function in the home. We’re excited to finish the space with all of the details in the coming weeks, and decorate soon!

Bedroom
As mentioned, this was more of a layout adjustment, so we had the finishes match the before of Cloud Cover by Benjamin Moore on the walls and Pure White on all trim and doors. I’ll be styling this space over the coming months!
The White Oak wood flooring matches our home – details are all listed here.
Laundry
The overall project bid came in higher than we had in mind due to everything over the past few years, so opted to hold on laundry cabinetry for a bit from now to save up and do it right! We have a lot going on with our home, a baby coming etc. and it’s important to share that it’s ok to break things up. As for the laundry machines, did heavy research and found these affordable options with great reviews that we have loved thus far.
All Finishes
I’ve linked hallway lighting, hardware, fans and more here!
