Primary Bedroom Design – Progress Reveal

May 19, 2022

I’ve been designing and ordering, ordering and designing all behind the scenes since March and could not wait any longer to share this space with you! I honestly didn’t think we’d touch the bedroom much as there is a lot we want to do with it, but I am SO glad I decided to pull the trigger to create a cozy sanctuary where we start and end our days.

The space started with our four poster bed, something G and I both always dreamed of. We had originally ordered this bed and had a nightmare of a day when it got delivered in ONE piece and would not fit up the stairs. I quickly found a new option, and while I originally wanted a more natural tone, I couldn’t be happier with what we got and how quickly it arrived (one week)!

The Bedding

I knew I wanted soft, muted neutral tones to create a sense of calm. Blue is a natural favorite for us, and the entire space came together with the stunning linens from The Citizenry. The duvet cover, sheets, pillowcases and euro shams all come together to balance tones and textures that literally feel like a cloud each and every day. The Citizenry has an incredible line of high quality bedding to easily mix and match tones for all styles. Layers are KEY and it was so convenient to find one shop that could do it all. The duvet is in Indigo Chambray and all other linens are in Sand Stripe and Tan.

You can shop all bedding at 15% off with code MEG15 through June!

Both pillow inserts are Amazon finds and are GOLD. The sleeping pillows are the perfect softness, yet balance firmness without a stiff neck in the morning. As for the decorative pillows, always size UP from your covers.

I wanted to have a random, yet cohesive mix of pattern play within the decorative pillows and these 3 were a hit. The two square covers are a bit of a splurge, but really make the room come together! The lumbar pillow is beyond affordable, and looks SO high end.

Wide, substantial nightstands were on the must-have list and I found the perfect option that didn’t break the budget. I love a shelf look, and wanted to mix a bit of black in the room to modernize it. They ship so fast and were pretty easy to assemble. The slight cream tone pops from the wall color (Benjamin Moore Cloud Cover, Trim is Sherwin Williams Pure White) while also contrasting from the poster bed tone.

The old lights were horrible glass beads (see the before in my Home Tour here) and I was set to find swing lights that made a statement. At first, I was looking for something pretty traditional. I landed on these and not only were they affordable, but pulled together the space entirely with the cream shade. I’ll share more about them on Instagram soon!

I know the nightstand decor will evolve over time, but in order to make it feel complete, I grabbed a few items to layer and add height to the space. A bit of (faux) greens always make a space feel happy. If you’re new here, I’m all about functional decor, so the little wood bin and big woven basket hold all nighttime essentials.

Last but not least, the rug! I have partnered with RugsUSA over the years and am always so satisfied with the quality their affordable prices bring. New styles are always coming out, and this new blue beauty is perfect for the space. Soft on the feet and the pattern is the perfect mix of modern and traditional.

What’s Next?

I’ll continue to refine the furnishings and decor to elevate the space, but with all that we have going on – it’s great for now. We need to hang the rest of the new curtain rods and curtains that arrived this week (we’ve got 7 more windows!) and touch up some paint. This space is then on hold until we renovate the bathroom and build a closet, which will lead to redoing the floors to match the rest of the house! So, much more to come here.
