Whether you just moved in or have owned your house for years, there are many little things that can be done to make it feel like home. Read my 8 ways to do so below!
1. Hang up Pictures or Art
Bringing in faces of those you love, places that mean the most to you, and overall happy memories will instantly personalize your space. No one else can buy these items which makes them all the more special.
In terms of art, find pieces that reflect not only places or things you love, but palettes that pull the space together to bring you joy.
2. Bring the Outdoors, In
Bring in the outdoors by purchasing plants or flowers. This natural element brings life to your space as its something to take care of & purifies your air. For whatever reason, as soon as I put a plant in a space (real or faux) it instantly feels happier.
Take it one step further. Is the beach your happy place? The nature trail? Those objects personalize the space and can be done in a tasteful way. You can go abstract by incorporating those colors in your pillows, wall art, or in an arrangement. Those subtle accents will mean something to you and bring you joy as you walk into a space.
3. Switch out Hardware
Instantly change a kitchen or bathroom by changing out the hardware. You can find some affordable options that fit your style to transform through a small yet impactful update.
4. Refresh for the Seasons
I don’t necessarily mean decorating for every holiday, but swapping out colors and textures for each season can bring in those feelings of warmth in the winter or lightness in spring. Search a season on my blog and you will find a few posts detailing how to transition for seasons!
5. Display Books
Show off your interests by putting out books that incorporate your hobbies or style. Or, if you just think it is a pretty book – that works too!
6. Restyle Shelves
I’ve talked a lot about the impact of shelf decor to help personalize a space! Read those posts here:

7. Tweak Lighting
Lighting can really set a vibe in a room. Between lamps and overhead lighting, it can be too much or too little depending on the function of the space. Try to balance out the light based on the usage of the room. Do you typically cozy up in a certain corner? Maybe you want a floor lamp to make that nook feel more complete.
Another way to play with lighting is through placement of candles. I don’t use real candles due to the toxicity, but battery operated set the same mood! Put them into glass jars/votives, or in objects for that glow.
8. Declutter!
Sometimes the junk is what is getting in the way, literally. I wrote an entire post on how to declutter to make it as painless as possible. Read here I also wrote a post on 20 things you can toss to declutter for a happy home. Read here
