Coffee table styling/decorating can be so overwhelming. It’s easy to overdo it, so here are 7 tips to styling your coffee table, with shoppable items to incorporate to complete your space!
1. Set an Anchor
Start by placing your larger items of decor for you to work around. These can range from plants, trays, books, bowls or vases. This allows you to see all aspects of what you should plan for – height, space, tones and textures.
Using a tray is the easiest way to ground items and create visual interest.
2. Use the Rule of Three
As I mentioned, it’s easy to over style a coffee table. As my advice goes for many other parts of the home, odd groupings enable you to balance out height, texture and tones to create a vignette. Whether its 3 items together, or a set of three groupings on your coffee table (or both), this is a great rule to keep top of mind.
3. Make a Visual Triangle through Height
Height is the one area where people go wrong. Using decor to create different height levels is key to drawing interest. Using books and boxes is the easiest way to stack height and on the flip side, have a lower level on their own. Vases and greenery can give a wide variety, but usually help in creating that triangle of high and low items in a grouping.
4. Mix Tones & Textures
Add depth to your arrangement by mixing textures – rattan, metal, concrete, wood; as well as mixing tones – gold, black, gray, bronze, beige.
5. Incorporate Natural Elements
Incorporating faux or real greenery, succulents, or florals adds another dimension to the decor within your table. It brings an organic element to the space, making it more inviting while also providing range in height.
6. Complete with Decorative Objects
Finish it off with decorative objects that are sentimental, vintage, and/or personal to you. These tend to be smaller items that are perfect for filling a spot within a vignette, while making home feel like its yours.
7. Have Fun With It!
While I’m giving you tips and “rules” to follow, have fun with it! When your mind is open, so is your creativity. Use these tips as a guide but feel free to make it yours – you’ll never know what will come of it!
